During the Dutch Design Week we paid a lot of attention to the relatively new fibre crop Silphium Perforliatum (Silphy or cupplant). A plant that lends itself perfectly to the manufacture of various building materials and at the same time contributes to a healthy soil. At the exhibition we showed the Silphy sheet material we developed, processed into a Stackable Stool designed by Piet Hein Eek.
On our beautiful LOADS Collection Coreopsis 23 bench Simone van Es🌱 received several people who work with this crop. She spoke with them about their role in the production chain and other developments in bio-based construction.
Today in ROOTS talk number 1 a conversation with John Smits, Managing Director of SAM Panels, the producer of the Silphy sheet material. He shares his vision on this new water-resistant sheet material and a possible future role as a building material.
Together we grow our new future, research is the way!🌱
